TUSB4041I: Current rising when GRSTz is activated

Part Number: TUSB4041I

Hi team,

Can you answer the following customer question please?

During measurements at the supply VDD of the component I could determine that the current consumption increases rapidly when the reset GRSTz is activated. Thereby the current increases from about 72mA in normal operation to 367mA, which is very unusual, which also exceeds the limit of 86mA for the pin from section 7.7. Unfortunately, I could not find anything about this behavior in the datasheet.
However, during my research I found the following: e2e.ti.com/.../653877
According to this entry, VDD can apparently require over 250mA. Are you aware of this behavior? Has this problem perhaps occurred before and you already have a solution? Or is the pin GRSTz not at all, intended to disable the component?

Thank you,

Franz

  • Hi Franz,

When the hub is held in reset, it goes into an undefined power state similar to the SMBUS programming power state.  It does not go into a low power state.  To force the hub into the low power state, make sure USB-VBUS is low.
