DS34LV86T: Can DS34LV86 line receiver can be use to differential 5v (RS-422) signalling

Part Number: DS34LV86T

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to know 2 things for DS34LV86T below:
1. Can it be used with 5v signalling (differential 5v (RS-422)).
2. If it is used with 5v signalling, and fail safe resistors are used, are they pulled to +5v and 0v, or +3.3v and 0v?

Thanks,

Jonathan

  • RS-422 does not use 5 V signals. A typical differential voltage is 2.5 V over a 100 Ω load.

The DS34LV86T works with both RS-422 signals and 5 V signals. (Its input common-mode range is wider than that.)

Fail-safe resistors ensure that the two signals have different voltages when no driver is active. Both 5 V and 3.3 V will work (any difference larger than 200 mV would be enough).
