TFP410: 16 Bit mode is supported or not

Part Number: TFP410

Hi TI Team,

We are using TFP410PAP IC for DVI output application. We are able to make it work in 24 bit mode for 1080-60fps.

So now can we use 16bit data without changing any configuration of IC. If not, what and all should be taken care.?

We found in datasheet that unused data lines should be pulled low /high, but unfortunately we didn't provide this option, since we considered 24 bit mode initially.

So is it must to pull-up or pull down the unused data lines. Please provide your valuable inputs.

Best Regards,

Vyshnav Krishnan

  • Hi Vyshnav,

Yes TFP410 can support 16-bit. Unused data inputs should be tied to GND or VCC as stated in the datasheet.

  • Hi Anyiam,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Sir, I have few more queries regarding this implementation.

    1. Can we give 16bit YCbCr input to this IC.? If yes, what will be the output format, RGB or YCbCr.?

    2. Also how the input signals to be connected to IC? Approach 1: first 16 bits as input and next 8 bit grounded

Approach 2: first 8bit for signal, next 4 bit for signals next 4bits grounded, next 4bits for signals and final 4 bit grounded.

Please provide your valuable input to proceed further.

  • Hi Vyshnav,

    1. No, this device only supports RGB

    2. You would ground the LSB (least significant bits) of each color. Reference the table in section 7.3.1 of the datasheet for the mapping.
