TUSB8042A: is it right connection of SSTX & SSRX on Up stream & Down stream?

Part Number: TUSB8042A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2546, , HD3SS3220

Hi. Team

Like a below picture, i try to build a USB hub(TUSB8042A) & Down-steam port2 (HD3SS3220 + TPS2546)

To avoid a mistake, i ask a SSTX & SSRX connection on UP & Down stream is right or not.

if you need more information, please let me know.

Thanks.

  • This looks correct to me.  An internal SS connection should be TX to RX, RX to TX, but an external SS connection to an exposed port should be TX to TX, RX to RX.

  • Hi. JMMN

    Thanks for your reply.

I was very helpful to understand about USB SS connection.

According to your answer, I made a circuit diagram of the USB hub system.

I will use to SDP Mode. Ext USB connect with Memory (SSD or HUB)

    please check my schematics.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Cho,

Can you send the schematic as an attachment next time so I can zoom in easier?  It is difficult to read the details.

    Schematic feedback:

    • USB_VBUS is a detection input that should only be high when an active host is connected.  It should be connected between the 90.9K/10K divider
    • All USB TX lines should have 100 nF AC caps installed.
    • Capacitor on GRSTz can be increased to 2 uF if voltage ramp times are slow.

    JMMN

  • Hi. JMMN

    Thank for your reply.

    USB_VBUS connection was my mistake.

I was send to you a modifying schematic. but i don't know your email or others transfer methods.

    Please let me know.

    thanks~

  • I just accepted your friend request, please send it directly to me.

    Thanks!

  • Hi. JMMN

    Thank for your reply.

I shared the revised circuit diagram by mail.

    i have some questions.

    1. PWRON1_BATEN1 ~PWRON4_BATEN4 : i will adjust Pull down R 4.7K ohm if need.

    2. Others pin was connected a internal pull down R. is it right?

    please check my schematic.

    thanks

  • Hi Cho,

PWRON pins can be left unconnected if not used.

Since the port power controls are not used, FULLPWRMGMTz should be pulled high.

For the internal SS connections, there should be AC caps on both sets of SS signals close to the transmitter for each pair.

Reviewing HD3SS3220 portion of the schematic, the ac caps are not needed between the hub and the HD3SS3220 if they are on both TX pairs between the  HD3SS3220 and the type-c connector.
