DS90UB953-Q1: Is it possible both of coax and STP can be compatible by jumper or short circuit?

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Dear Sir,

I want to use 953/954 in my design, I hope STP and COAX mode can be supported on one hardware PCB board, e.g. by jumper or short circuits , of course , only one mode is valid while running.

Can you give me some advice?

Best regards.

David

  • Hello,
Is this on the TI EVM's or one of your boards? The EVMs are designed to work with coax.

You can refer to these other E2E threads for information on STP/coax for 953/954.

  • Dear Sir,

Yes, I had found these two articles, but it seems it cannot solve my concern.

It is easier to select STP or COAX mode by firmware, but I think hardware  compatible design shall be  done carefully. the impedance for STP or COAX is different and pcb STUB may affect the signal integration. and then the performance ,e.g.  the max throughput may be lower than its specification.

The connectors for STP are normal, not for high speed. If they works fine, I will use STP mode, because STP connectors are very cheap. otherwise I have to use COAX, coax connector are much expensive than STP connectors.

I want to design both of them in ONE PCB board.

I hope I can explain it more clearly.

    Thanks.

    David

  • Decai,

yes, you can design one compatible circuit for this applications, some comments:

    1. connector compatible design consideration, you can refer to TI's UB914 EVM board which has coax and STP compatible design

    2. single-end and diff. compatible design, you can use "'capacitors" as selection, also UB914a EVM board design includes this message.

    best regards,

    Steven

  • Dear Steven,

Thanks for your comments, I will have a look for 914 EVM.
