SN65HVD72: PCB pattern width

The optimal width would be one which gives a characteristic impedance which is matched to the cable that will be used (in most applications this is something like 120 Ohms or 100 Ohms differential). Most PCB editors are able to make this calculation, and free calculator tools can be found online as well. In most cases, though, this width is not too critical given that the trace length in most applications will be short compared to the cable and compared to the transition time of the RS-485 signal.
