Capacitors of UCC5350

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC5350

We have a question about UCC5350.

In datasheet p.37, about selecting a Vcc2 capacitor,

A 50-V, 10-μF MLCC and a 50-V, 0.22-μF MLCC are selected for the CVCC2 capacitor.

Please tell us the reason why we must use 10μF MLCC and  0.22μF MLCC.

Our customer wants to use capacitors of other values.

For example, using 1μF instead of 0.22μF or using three capacitorss of 4.7μF and so on.

Can we use capacitors ofother value?

Best regards,

Takahiro Nishizawa

  • Hello Takahiro,

The 10-uF and 0.22-uF capacitors are general recommendations for biasing to support high peak currents and for high frequency filtering.

Three 4.7uF capacitors in parallel can be used for the biasing circuitry and the capacitor selection for high frequency filtering depends on the customer system. In general we recommend 0.22-uF but this can be modified if needed.

    regards,
    Mateo

  • Thank you for your answer!

It is not Required about using 10μF and 0.22μF.
    Is this understanding correct?

  • Hello Takahiro,

Your understanding is correct. These values are not a requirement.

TI recommends a VCC2-VEE2 biasing capacitor between 220-nF to 10-uF with an additional 100-nF capacitor in parallel for high frequency filtering.

The value for the bias capacitor should be able to support the peak current requirements to turn on/off the FET or IGBT.

    Regards,
    Mateo
