2G calling alternative

I don't know if I placed this post correctly.

I am currtently developing a product that has the ability to call and text a person on the touch of a button.

Since 2G disappears soon in the Netherlands, I am looking for an alternative to 2G.

Is there a way to achieve the same (calling and texting) without using 2G?

The 2G module I am using now costs about €3, so I would like the alternative to be around that price.

Thank you.

  • Can you please clarify what device you have the question about? It looks like this was routed to the wrong response team.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Laura,

Thanks very much for your question - could you provide some information about the 2G Module you are now using?  Is this a TI module?  As I understand, you are simply wanting to change the RF carrier from 2G to 3G, is that correct?

If not, and you are redesigning this module, a block diagram and any other detailed information you can share would be very helpful.

    At your service,

    ~Leonard

The module that is currently being used is a SIM800C.

Yes, but 3G is just an example of alternatives to 2G. I have seen that 3G modules are not nearly as cheap as 2G modules, but 4G modules come really close.

So I am just wondering if any TI modules come close to this specification (4G, cheap, and being able to call and text).

    Thank you!

  • Hi Laura,

We do not have a module that is similar to the SimCom module.  Our focus is, of course, ICs, so while we may supply the basic components that are used in such a module, we do not engage in the finished-product RF module.

I'm sure you will find a supplier that will meet your requirements.

    Regards,

    ~Leonard
