TRS3243: one question about RS232 standard

Part Number: TRS3243

Hi,

Dose standard RS232 interface support hotswap function? how about RS485?

Thanks.

  • Hi Oliver,

Many RS-232 or RS-485 transceiver ICs may support hot plugging by making sure their bus IOs are high-impedance until fully powered and can power up without glitches, but I'm not aware of this being something generally addressed by the TIA/EIA standards. I'd recommend consulting individual device datasheets to be sure. If you have any questions related to a specific device please let me know and I can try to help you figure this out.

  • Hi Max,
Does TRS3243 support the hot plugging? If it can't. Can you suggest a right one?

    Thanks.
    Oliver
  • Oliver,

Yes, this device can be hot plugged. It is designed to have very low leakage on the RS-232 signal lines when it is unpowered, so it should not have much of an impact on the system when being plugged it. If possible I'd recommend placing a pull-down resistor on the /FORCEOFF pin and then driving it high once the system is fully powered and ready to communicate; that way, any glitches that may occur on the DIN pins during system bring-up would not show up on the RS-232 lines.

    Regards,
