TPS65982: 2 USB type-C ports in notebook application

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi,

If 2 TPS65982 are used to support 2 USB type-C ports in notebook application and they need different firmware, do they need 2 different flash memories?

My customer merges Alpine Ridge firmware and TPS65982 firmware in one flash memory. If they need 2 flash memories, how do they merge firmware with Alpine Ridge?

Best regards,

  • Hi Sean,

Yes, two TPS65982 devices can be booted from the same flash chip. The Primary TPS65982 will boot through I2C, it will then boot the Secondary TPS65982 through UART.
In the Applications Customization Tool, you can adjust the number of devices connected under the General Settings tab. You can then configure the individual devices separately. Afterwards, you can merge that config file with the Alpine Ridge config file using the Intel merge tool.

    Thank you,
    Eric
  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for your feedback. When primary and secondary shares the same firmware, is there anything I should keep in mind? I just built the firmware in the same way I did for 1-port.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Sean,

That's how it should be done! Now both of your TPS65982's will load the same configurations when booting.

    Thank you,
    Eric
