TUSB8044: USB-ISP

Hello Patrick,

The TUSB8044 does have a USB (HID) to I2C endpoint device that can be used for firmware updates on your platform (ISP); however it won't automatically perform any related actions when connecting a USB thumb drive.

To do that, you will need to develop an application that would detect a device insertion, look for the firmware file, and send the data over I2C using the specific ISP protocol defined for your device.

We have some source code examples that demonstrate how to send data over I2C using the TUSB8044, and those examples can be used as a reference to develop your own application.

Section 9.2.1.2 on the datasheet (Detailed design procedure) has some reference schematics that can be used as a guideline for the correct implementation of the device.
The I2C lines to be used for firmware update are shared with the optional configuration EEPROM. In other words, the device to be updated, should be connected through I2C using the "SDA/SMBDAT" and "SCL/SMBCLK" lines. Check figure 42 on the datasheet (I2C_SDA/I2C_SCL)

What is the purpose of the MSP430?
On this topoloy there are 2 separate I2C buses, the TUSB8044 will comunicate with the MSP430 and the MSP430 will comunicate with the scaler.
I don't see a problem with the topology as long as the MSP430 ends up sending the correct data to the scaler.
