TUSB8041: device quiescent supply current in hardware reset

Part Number: TUSB8041

Hi,

For TUSB8041 (4-port USB 2.0/3.0 hub), what is the quiescent current draw on the various supply rails when hardware RESET_N is asserted (driven low)? I cannot find that spec in the datasheet. There is discussion of low power modes Power ON (after reset), Upstream Disconnect, and Suspend, but nothing about hardware reset.

Thanks!

  • Hello Owen,

Typical power consumption while the device is un-configured would be the same as the one listed for "SMBUS Programming current"; that is around 80mA for VDD33 and 225mA for VDD.

    Regards,
    Jorge.
  • Thanks, Jorge.

A follow-up question then... without removing power, what is the lowest power consumption mode I can get to through hardware only means? In other words, no software commands. I ask, because the SMBus Programming Current spec (equivalent to hardware reset), is still fairly high.

For example, one of the low power modes listed is "Upstream Disconnect". Could I run the upstream USB pairs through a bus FET switch and just tristate it to force a disconnect? Or is there a more simple/elegant way?

  • Hello Owen,

Lowest power consumption without the host suspending the device would be, as you mentioned, after reset without an upstream connection.

Best way to control a disconnection would be through the USB_VBUS terminal.

    Jorge.
  • Perfect. Thank you for the assistance.
