TPS2546: CDP mode fault pin status

Hello,

We are using 3 TPS2546 in one of the project, 2 are in auto DCP mode and 1 is in CPD mode as we need to support charging as well as thumbdrive for data transfer. When we connect a device for charging, the fault pin is asserting low for some duration (we have not checked the duration) and going high again. This behavior happens for the first time when we power the TPS2546 and plug a device for charging.

Will TPS2546 fault pin behavior is correct?

Hi Sreekanth,

This seems odd. The fault pin only asserts low when an over current or over temperature event occurs. There is also a de-glitch circuit for current limit conditions so I don't think the issue is inrush current.

Could you get scope shots of Vbus, Fault, and Current through Vbus when the fault is occuring? This may help us see whats going on.
Also, what port is this happening on and what device is being attached?
How long is the fault pin being pulled low?

Hi Donovan,

Yes, this seems odd. As there is de-glitch circuit for over current the fault pin should not go low, If we think that fault pin is going low because of over temperature then the fault pin should be low till the time temperature falls below 135 degree.

We will share the screen shots of VBUS and Fault pin when the fault is occurring.
