TUSB2077A: Tried using the TUSB2077A but it seems very old

Part Number: TUSB2077A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB4041I

Hello,

I was looking into the TUSB2077A 7-port Hub for universal Serial Bus (TUSB2077A 7-Port Hub for the Universal Serial Bus With Optional Serial EEPROM Interface. but it looks like a very old part would you recommend a new solution for my following requirements:

Prompt: USB hub port for testing equipment able to handle constant use for long periods of time.

  • IC (and all other parts) are large enough to hand replace. (no gnd pad under the IC)
  • >=7 ports
  • 2.0 USB
  • Can supply from Vbus line a >= 200mA draw
  • ESD protection and over voltage protection on all lines (I have had a lot of issue with this part in the past)
  • Dev kit to test on, layout reference and parts reference (preferred)

Generally the more ports the better.

Regards,

David

  • Hello David,

We do not have a single part that meets all of your specifications, but I would recomend is that you use 2 TUSB4041I's where one is connected to the downstream port of the other hub.

"IC (and all other parts) are large enough to hand replace. (no gnd pad under the IC)": I this solution does have GND thermal pads
">=7 ports": This solution offers 7 ports
"2.0 USB": This solution provides high speed USB(480 Mbps)
"Can supply from Vbus line a >= 200mA draw" can be supplied from VBUS with less than 200 mA draw
"ESD protection and over voltage protection on all lines (I have had a lot of issue with this part in the past)": you should use an external ESD solution not just the chips esd protection.
"Dev kit to test on, layout reference and parts reference (preferred)" We have an EVM posted online and i can email you a reference layout and reference schematic if you want.
