TUSB1046-DCI: About TUSB1046-DCI circuit design

Part Number: TUSB1046-DCI
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1044, TUSB422

Hi, all

We are going to chose TUSB1044 / TUSB1046-DCI as the switch for Type-C Display port alt mode. there are two questions as below:

1. If VCC(3.3V) of TUSB1044 / TUSB1046-DCI is power off, will the 1.8V IO level pins between application processor and TUSB1044 / TUSB1046-DCI(such as LIP / SCL, CTL0 / SDA and CTL1 / HPDIN) leak to TUSB1044 / TUSB1046-DCI,these pins such as I2C are sharing with other active chips.

2. The HPD event can be obtained by the output of PD controller?Does TI have such a PD controller that can be paired with these two ICs? What kind of interface is the HPD event output, GPIO or I2C or others?

Thanks

Best Regards

Hai

  • 1. If you refer to TUSB1044 / TUSB1046-DCI datasheets pins that are marked as failsafe will not leak to TUSB1044 / TUSB1046-DCI Vcc.

    2. HPD is normally indicated through GPIO of a micro-controller. PD controllers normally do not take in HPD as it is apart of DisplsyPort and not USB. PD controllers can be used to configure the device in case of Type-C flip case. I recommend TUSB422.
  • Dear Malik Barton,

Thanks a lot for your answer, it's helpful.

  • Dear Malik Barton,

    Question about your following comment:

    1. If you refer to TUSB1044 / TUSB1046-DCI datasheets pins that are marked as failsafe will not leak to TUSB1044 / TUSB1046-DCI Vcc.

    In TUSB1046-DCI Datasheet:

    • CTL1/HPDIN: 2 Level I (Failsafe)(PD)
    • FLIP/SCL: 2 Level I
    • CTL0/SDA: 2 Level I

But in 6.6 DC Electrical Characteristics there is a description: 2-State CMOS Input (CTL0, CTL1, FLIP, CAD_SNK, HPDIN) CTL1, CTL0 and FLIP are Failsafe.

So, my question is: CTL1, CTL0 and FLIP are  all failsafe? or only CTL1/HPDIN is failsafe?

    In TUSB1044 Datasheet:

    • FLIP/SCL and CTL0/SDA are 2 Level I (Failsafe)

My question is: SLP_S0# & HPDIN are failsafe or not?

    2. Is the HPDIN signal necessary? If I do not connect HPDIN with HOST, Can the HPD events be transmitted via I2C?

    Thank you!

    Best Regards
