ISO1640: can low_level output voltage be lower?

Part Number: ISO1640
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9800

hi Team,

my customer using the ISO1640 and would like to check if the low_level output voltage can further be decreased

or other recommended device that can achieve this?

for example can Vol1 be at Max 600mV?

Thanks

  • Hi John,

    Thanks for reaching out.

The LOW level output voltage cannot be reduced further than the VOL1 spec given in the datasheet without adding another device. The higher VOL1 allows implementation of bidirectional operation in the ISO1640, hence, this is part of the design itself. If this voltage is not compatible with the I2C device that you are interfacing ISO1640 to, then I would recommend using an I2C buffer TCA9800. Please make sure you connect SideB of TCA9800 to Side1 of ISO1640 while SideA of TCA9800 connects to the I2C device that needs to be isolated, without any pull-up resistors (this is in-built in TCA9800).

Let me know if you have any questions, thanks.
