ISOW7842: is it compatible with ADM3251EARWZ

Part Number: ISOW7842
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01230, TRS3122E, , ISOW7841, ISOW7741

hi,

i need to replace the RS232 Isolated Transceiver ADM3251. Do you know if the ISOW7842 is a valid alternative? do i need to add an RS-232 interface (i.e. TRS3122E, as shown in TIDA-01230)?

thank you

  • Hi Vincenzo,

Thank you for reaching out and for showing interest in ISOW7842.

ADM3251E is a single-channel isolated RS-232 device with an integrated DC-DC converter. We currently do not have a device that is exactly similar to ADM3251E but we do have isolators with integrated DC-DC converters and non-isolated RS-232 transceivers. You can achieve the same functionality using a two-chip solution like it is described in TIDA-01230 and like you have already pointed out.

ISOW7842 is our first generation digital isolator with integrated DC-DC converter. We now have the second generation device ISOW7741 that offers significant improvements over ISOW7842. I would recommend you to use ISOW7741 along with a non-isolated RS-232 transceiver for your application. I am also copying below a link to another E2E post that describes and highlights the differences between ISOW7841 and ISOW7741.
