ISO6720: digital isolated solution for MIPI signal

Part Number: ISO6720
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7821LLS, ISO7821LL

Hi team,

I'm looking for a digital isolation for MIPI signal in dental applications, and so far ISO6720 is probably meet the requirement.

Since the MIPI signal go through human body, the isolation is necessary. However, there is a LP signal of 0 to 1.2V in MIPI which is not a CMOS or LVDS signal.

So,

  • Is it feasible for ISO6720 to transfer MIPI LP signal?
  • Would you please provide some reference design or recommendation of MIPI isolation?

Thanks,

Rebecca Li

  • Hi Rebecca,

    Thanks for reaching out.

MIPI interface is primarily a differential interface hence, ISO6720 cannot be used for MIPI interface directly. We currently do not have isolators that can isolate MIPI interface without needing additional devices.

Alternatively, can can use an MIPI/LVDS bridge device and convert MIPI to LVDS signal and then can isolate LVDS signals using LVDS isolator (ISO7821LL). Once the signals are isolated using LVDS isolator, they can be back converted to MIPI again using MIPI/LVDS bridge. I am sharing below a link to TI website that lists all the MIPI/LVDS bridge devices. Please note that ISO7821LL supports 100Mbps datarate while ISO7821lLS can support upto 150Mbps. I am not too sure if these are good enough datarates for customer. If yes, then they can go ahead with these parts.
