ISO1540: ISO1540 as replacement for ISO1541?

Part Number: ISO1540
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1541, , ISO1640

Hello,

if I understand datasheet of ISO1540/ISO1541 I2C isolator in a right way, ISO1540 is universal variant which could be used also in applications where ISO1541 is sufficient (where clock stretching by slaves is not performed and multimasters are not presented). Is any advantage of use ISO1541 isolator or could be ISO1540 used in all examples?

Many thanks,
Dejan.

  • Hi Dejan,

Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in ISO154x devices.

The bidirectional channels have restricted VIL and VOL specifications on Side1 (SDA1/SCL1) which is necessary to implement bidirectional functionality. Not all MCUs might be compatible with these logic requirements. The single unidirectional channel in ISO1541 doesn't have this restriction on SCL1 due to its unidirectionality. Other than this, there are no differences or benefits between the two devices.

ISO1540 should safely replace ISO1541 without any issues. Please do make sure the MCU is compatible with SCL1 logic requirements.

We also recommend you to use our next generation I2C isolator, ISO1640, which offers better performance over ISO1540. Thanks.
