ISO7741-Q1: output current

Part Number: ISO7741-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7741,

Hello E2E,

in the maximum ratings, the output current is limited to +/-15 mA.

Is this value related to a maximum peak  output current value or is this an output average / rms value?

In an actual application, the output shall drive an RC Filter with 47R in series to a filter capacitor of 22pF. The output peak with 5 V Supply

is therefore 5V / 47R = 105 mApeak.  Is this allowed or does this exceed the absolute maximum rating?

Regards Christian

  • Hi Christian,

Thank you for posting to E2E! The absolute maximum rating refers to output peak values, and since 15mA of output peak current is the absolute maximum rating of output channels of ISO7741, any current >15mA will not be supported.

This configuration seems close to our expected application since our isolators are suited to drive high-impedance inputs with capacitances <15pF. A filter capacitance ~22pF should still be fine since the isolator will likely not reach 105mA current with a 22pF capacitor on the output pin in practice. The source impedance of the isolator output combined with the 47Ω series resistor should limit this to be within an acceptable range.

Please test the ISO7741-Q1 in this configuration to ensure it is within recommended conditions, and if necessary, you may reduce the filtering capacitor value slightly.

    Thank you,
    Manuel Chavez
