ISO1042: ESD capability vs. Impedance

Customer is now using ISO1042 in industrial application. they'd like to know if the ESD capability is related to its input impedance on every pin of the device?

For example, The higher input impedance, the higher ESD immunity? is it linearity behavior for both? Please share if possible. Very thanks.

    Thank you for posting to E2E! ESD performance of different pins is not necessarily correlated to their input impedance as each pin may have different ESD structures. We guarantee ratings per pins regardless of impedance values as shown in the ISO1042 datasheet excerpt copied below:



    Please note that these ratings for HBM and CDM performance do not protect the device against system-level ESD tests, like IEC ESD strikes. If our customer's CAN bus needs to withstand IEC ESD strikes, ISO1042 has wide common-mode and absolute voltage ratings for CANH / CANL, facilitating the selection of system-level ESD protection components. The steps and example described in the How to Design Isolated CAN Systems With Correct Bus Protection (SLLA419) app report can help our customer select an appropriate IEC ESD protection device if needed.
