ISO6720: Product recommendation on industrial scanner

Part Number: ISO6720
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISOUSB211, ISOUSB111, TRS3221

Hi team,

Actually I don't have an exact part number and I am new to isolation products, could u  recommend some hero  isolation products of USB & RS232& GPIO targeted on industrial scanners?

The background in that one of my customers of industrial scanner doesn't use isolation in their older generation products and this leads to the USB and RS232 interface failure when plug-in interface. Do u have any other related materials that could be shared with me ?

  • Hi Zoey,

    Thanks for reaching out.

I am copying below an E2E blog which describes all the key factors involved in choosing a digital isolator. Most of these factors are isolation related and hence, remain the same across application whether one needs digital isolator or an isolated interface device.

    https://e2e.ti.com/blogs_/b/analogwire/posts/how-to-select-a-digital-isolator

The blog makes recommendations on choosing digital isolators and isolated power devices, these can be used to isolate digital data channels, also commonly known as GPIOs.

I also see you are specifically looking for isolation devices for USB and RS-232. For USB isolation, we currently have two devices with different speeds. If customer only requires Low Speed (LS) or Full Speed (FS) interface, then they could choose ISOUSB111 but if customer requires High Speed (HS) then they can consider ISOUSB211. Please note that LS, FS and HS are common USB terms, customer would be able to confirm what USB speed they are looking for.

Regarding RS-232 isolation, we currently do not have a single chip solution to isolate RS-232. If customer is fine with using more than two devices then one of the below suggestions can be used.

    1. ISO67xx + transceiver (like TRS3221), assuming isolated power already exists in customer application.
    2. ISOW77xx + transceiver (like TRS3221), this offers integrated power isolation as well. Refer to below reference design for example.
      1. https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-01230
    3. ISO67xx + transceiver (like TRS3221) + SN650x, this offers discrete power isolation solution

  • Hi  Koteshwar,

Thanks for your quick response! It is very clear and useful to me.

    Thanks again!
