ISO7331C: low voltage operation at 100-250KBs

Part Number: ISO7331C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7731, ISO6731, ISO7831

Hello,

With the current global component shortage, I am having to make many compromises and substitutions to keep our product alive.
We use an Analog Devices ADuM1301 isolator in an application that goes down to 2.85V.
Your TI product stock that can fit into that same spot and voltage is scarce.

One option that I have is the ISO7331C part, but it has a lower limit of 3.0V.

However....I am using the isolator at a data rate <1Mbit.   I could probably go even lower, to say 100Kbit or 250Kbit.
Is there a possibility then that the ISO7331C might work reliably at 2.85V at this lower data rate?
Given that it is a 25Mbs part, and I am proposing to run at 1/100th of that rate, I am hoping you can tell me that this has the potential to work at 2.85V, nominally 3.0V.

Thanks and best regards,

Glen

  • Hi Glen,

Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in ISO7331C.

I understand the component shortage has made it difficult for most customers.
Unfortunately, the datarate and power supply operating voltage are two different parameters and not necessarily directly dependent. The circuit is designed to operate from 3.0V to 5.5V and hence, it is going to support that voltage range irrespective of the datarate. Reducing datarate doesn't improve operating supply voltage range. Sorry about that.

The TI devices that are suitable to be used for voltages <3.0V are from the ISO67xx, ISO77xx and ISO78xx families. The actual part numbers include ISO6731, ISO7731 and ISO7831 and their automotive variants. I hope you will be able to find some stock of these parts.

Let me know if you have any further questions, thanks.
