ISO1042: Isolation in GND2 pin.

Hi,

We are using "ISO1042DWR" CAN Isolated transceiver in our design. We have query about Isolated ground connection to another board.

Our design has internal Isolated supply for the CAN transceiver.

Is it necessary to connect the Isolated Ground along with CAN_H and CAN_L line to the another board? or Can we left open the the GND1 and GND2 connection?

Hi Sandesh,

I believe the GND1 mentioned on Board 1 is actually GND2 of the ISO1042DWR.
The connection between the GNDs of board 1 and board 2 are optional for CAN operation, if it is not possible then GND1 & GND2 can be left unconnected.
If the GNDs are connected, it will help increase the immunity against common mode noise.
