SN6505A-Q1: This device does not work.

Part Number: SN6505A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6505A, SN6505B

Hello,

I am having an issue with my design, as shown below. The voltage at Pin.2 of the transformer (750313769) is pulling P5V0 from 5V to less than 2V and back to 2V to 5V.

I want it to give me a constant voltage of 5 volts at the output. I am not getting it.

  • Hi Ikenna,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Please note that SN6505A requires a transformer with a minimum VT product of 20Vµs as stated in SN6505A datasheet equation (4) under section 9.2.2.5 while the transformer 750313769 that you chosen has only 11Vµs. Hence, the transformer will saturate if used with SN6505A and render non-operational which is what you are seeing right now.

The easiest way to address this issue is to replace SN6505A with SN6505B and the solution should work just fine without any change in schematic. 750313769 is a transformer that is suitable to work with SN6505B as also stated in the transformer recommendations listed in Table 3 of SN6505 datasheet (see snapshot below).

If you would like to use SN6505A only, then you can choose 750315240 (VT = 23Vµs) which should work with SN6505A without any issues. Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks.
