ISOUSB211: Tools for board testing

Part Number: ISOUSB211

Dear TI,

I found a very useful free software to test the board developed based on ISOUSB211.

https://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtreeview_e.html

I initially had connection issues during USB enumeration - connected device disappeared after computer restart.  No issues once USB connection is established by removing and reconnecting the device.

USB Device Tree Viewer allows easier testing since it allows

  • Safely Remove
  • Restart Device
  • Restart Port

without having to reboot computer.

To ensure the correct selection of VBUS capacitors' values (on peripheral side), testing was done with many USB devices like thumb drives but mainly audio devices (USB DAC) since the board is targeted for audio.

I would like to ask the experts here how do you test boards based on ISOUSB211 without having to resort to very expensive tools like scope with eye diagram capability or USB Protocol Analyzer.

Thanks,

Anwar

  • Hi Anwar,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Glad to know that you are able to use ISOUSB211 with other free tools and address the connection issue.
I understand that you are looking for methods and approaches to test your product without the use of expensive equipment like oscilloscope with eye diagram capability or USB Protocol Analyzer. Unfortunately, I might not have the best answer to your answer as we haven't explored alternative less expensive options.

Our expertise lies in testing and characterizing ICs and the test requirements at an end-equipment level can be different. You are going to be a better judge than us to understand what the key performance parameters for your application are and how best to test them. Since this is going to very application specific, I am afraid I do not have very good inputs for you.

If it is a worthwhile option, you may also reach out to an external test facility and lease their facility on hour basis to best test your products using the equipment you need.
Sorry that I do not have any other better suggestions than what I have provided here. Thanks.
