ISO1430: Distance max RS485 5V and 3V3 - 1200 meters - 1 Mbit/s

Part Number: ISO1430

Hello,

We update an old industrial network based on RS485 at 1 Mbit/s, we used ISO1430 wich work perfectly to replace old components (driver+isolation transformer). We use simple pairs cable (150 characteristics) with 150 ohms termination at each end,  1 equipment with ISO1430 at each end,  1 sypbus to check frames at each end too.

Our tests works well up to 1500 meters with 1 Mbit/s (without repeaters) wich is correct, almost same than old components.

My question : we supply ISO1430 with 5V, maybe you have the answer, i looked for but not find precise answer,  if we supply with 3V3, will we have  the same distance, or can we estimate the loss  (or ratio) ?

Regards,

Bruno.

  • Hello Bruno,

I am glad to hear that ISO1430 is working well. There will be less power supplied to the bus If you decrease the VCC2 from 5V to 3.3V. As a result, you can expect the distance and drive strength to decrease by roughly 66%, (or 3.3V / 5V).

    Best,
    Andrew
