[FAQ] How does wire break detection work?

Part Number: ISO1228

Tool/software:

How does wire break detection work?

  • Wire break detection only works in sink mode. In application the sensors can be far from PLC modules and connected with long cables/wires. Hence, wire break is monitored continuously. Wire break feature will detect if the connection on INx is complete or not.

Sink mode switches between 24V / Open. When VIN = 24 V, the wire is intact since voltage is detected at INx. When the switch is Open, no current flows into INx. The switch will have a parallel path through the wire break resistor so that a minimum current will flow through INx and complete the circuit. If the current is lower than the minimum value, then there is a wire break detected.
