ISOW1412: ISOW1412

Part Number: ISOW1412

Tool/software:

Hello,

What is the voltage transient pulse limit on the A,B,X,Y pins? I know that the datasheet states that Vbus is limited from -12V to 15V, however in other datasheets for transceivers I have seen that there can be a voltage transient rating that is greater than the operational bus rating. Would the device be able to handle 50V for 300us, on the pins A,B,X,Y? If so, what are the exact limits for voltage transients? Thank you.

  • Hi Larisa,

    Welcome to TI E2E forum!

The recommended operating voltage range for the RS-485 bus pins is -7V to 12V which is required by the RS-485 standard (TIA/EIA-485A). The ISOW1412 supports absolute max ratings of -12V to 15V on these bus pins which is over the required voltage range. Other than this, the bus pins have transient protection for HBM ESD events of upto ±16kV as stated in the datasheet.

Regarding support for 50V for 300µs, we do not conduct any test that is similar to these voltage and times but I do not believe the device will be able to support this requirement. I recommend using a TVS diode on RS-485 bus pins to protect the bus against such transients. I am copying below a reference that implements various protections to meet various EMC transients. Thanks.
