ISO7761: Shorting Output to Ground

Part Number: ISO7761

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I am currently looking into the ISO7761 for an application. In the application, the output of ISO7761 would be connected to a switch which would short this output to ground. I wanted to make sure this would not lead to any device failures or problems. Is it ok to have the output of the ISO7761 shorted to ground? Is there anything I need to take into account when doing this design?

Thank you,

Matthew Bavier

  • The absolute maximum ratings do now allow an output current of more than 15 mA. Figure 5-13 shows that a short would exceed this.

Why is there that switch? Couldn't you use an AND gate?

  • Hi Matthew,

    Thank you for your question.

As Clemens stated, the main consideration is the absolute maximum ratings for the output current IO. There is definitely a chance that shorting the output to ground can violate this rating.

We recommend to avoid shorting the output to ground as it violates the absolute maximum ratings and can void TI warranty as well. A schematic or block diagram will be helpful to make further suggestions on the design.

  • Hi Aaditya and Clemens,

Thank you for you help, Aaditya I will follow up via email so we can discuss further suggestions.

    Thank you,
