ISO1176:Can be used in non-isolated circuit designs?

Part Number: ISO1176

Tool/software:

In our current circuit design, the power and ground cannot be isolated. Can ISO1176 still be used in this situation?

  • Connecting the VCC and GND pins on both sides is allowed. But you could just as well use a plain RS-485 transceiver.

  • Hello,

As Clemens mentioned, Connecting the VCC and GND pins on both sides is allowed. But you could just as well use a plain RS-485 transceiver. Connecting both supply pins and ground pins together bypasses the isolation `barrier and provide NO isolation for the system.

If the goal is to maintain isolation, having separate supplies for VCC1 and VCC2 and separate ground for GND1 and GND2 is required.
