ISOM8110: For replacing TCMT1107 for use in Flyback UCC287505DBVR

Part Number: ISOM8110

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are looking at using the UCC287505DBVR and were planning on using the TCMT1107 similarly to the evaluation board. We started doing some research due to concerns of reliabilities and such of opto-couplers and found that TI now offers Opto-emulators with one article found that recommended the ISOM8110. Is there any concern or recommendations with using the ISOM8110 in place of the TCMT1107?

Thank you.

  • Hello Joaquin,

I am happy to see that you found our EDN article interesting.

The ISOM8110 opto-emulators will help to improve the transient response of the feedback loop and solve the LED-aging, reliability concerns of optocouplers.

One important recommendation is to design the feedback loop to have a forward current greater than 500uA (700uA for the automotive version) across the diode emulator. The ISOM8110 needs the 500uA forward current to power the input stage and transmit signal across the isolation barrier. This modification can be easily made by changing the components in table 1 below.

    Best,
    Andrew
