ISO7821LL: ISO7821LL: Can this be used as a single ended to differential converter

Part Number: ISO7821LL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO6441

Hi,

I have an application where I am using this part to isolate LVDS signals, but also need to isolate a pair of single ended, unidirectional signals. Can the ISO7821LL be used as a single-diff converter if In- is simply grounded and In+ is driven by the signal?

The signle ended pulse is12.5MHz

  • Hello Phil,

Thank you for reaching out. The ISO7821LL can be used in this way, however, this is not the intended use of the device, therefore use it at your own risk. If you would still like to do this, the IN- pin would need held at VIC (common-mode) or ~1.2V (and not grounded). IN+ would then switch between 400mV lower than the common mode and 400mV higher than the common mode to switch the output.

The better solution would be to use a LVDS driver to convert the signal and isolate the LVDS signal using ISO7821LL after it is converted (isolate the single ended signal using a digital isolator like ISO6441).

    Best,
    Andrew
