ISO7241M: ISO7242M input pin tolerant voltage

Part Number: ISO7241M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7231M

Hi!

In your data sheet "ISO724x High-Speed, Quad-Channel Digital Isolators",

there is "The signal input pins are 5-V tolerant regardless of the voltage supply level that is used." on page 7,

but Absolute maximum ratings says "Vi must be (VCC + 0.5)" on page 9

When I use 3.3V as a VCC,VI must be within 3.8V?

But the data sheet says "input pins are 5V toleran ~~~".

Thank you.

Kang.

  • Hi Kang,

Thanks for reaching out to us with the question.

ISO7241M is quite an old device, hence, I don't have answer ready but I will be happy check on this. Looking at the datasheet, it does state that the inputs are 5V tolerant irrespective of VCC and I believe this should be the case. The abs max spec item given in datasheet is for multiple inputs and outputs hence I believe a common statement that I/Os shouldn't exceed VCC+0.5V is stated.

Please allow me to check if I have these devices in my stock and if yes, I will be quickly able to come back to let you know if the inputs are 5V tolerant indeed. Thanks.

  • Hi Kang,

Thank you for posting in E2E. This is Wilson, from the same team as Koteshwar.

We checked with ISO7231M in the lab, and found the tolerance of  I/Os is still 5V, regardless of the supply of Vcc. These is no issue when you apply Vcc=3.3V and V_IN=5V.

    Best Regards,
