SN6501-Q1: SN6501-Q1&SN6505-Q1 difference.

Part Number: SN6501-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6501, SN6505D-Q1, SN6505B-Q1, SN6505A-Q1

Hi

What is the difference between SN6501-Q1 and SN6505-Q1?

Thanks!

  • Hi Neal,

Thank you for posting to E2E! There are quite a few differences between these two devices, so I will summarize the main points. If there is a specific parameter you are interested in, please let me know to elaborate.

SN6505 is an improvement of the SN6501 in terms of current-sinking capability: SN6505 can sink 1A of current, allowing for up to 5W of isolated power transfer while SN6501 can sink a max 350mA, allowing for 1.75W of isolated power transfer.

SN6505 also has features built in that SN6501 does not, including:

    • Over-current protection and thermal shutdown to protect the device
    • Soft start to ease output power up of high capacitance loads (except for SN6505D-Q1)
    • Spread-spectrum clocking to reduce emissions levels
    • Selection between two default switching frequencies (SN6505A-Q1 = ~160kHz and SN6505B-Q1 =~424kHz) or use of an external clock
    • An Enable pin to turn the device on/off if necessary

Are you currently using an SN6501 or SN6505?

    Thank you,
    Manuel Chavez
