Help to define the best reference design for IOT Gateway development

I'm develloping a IIOT Gateway wich is controlled by a Raspberry Pi wich has 32 24v Digital input channels and 8 0.5A outputs. The signals interfece is now made with a multiplexer and the Raspberry Pi recives through SPI. I have a functional board, but it will not be the definitive because it doesnt has any type of protection and isolation. I am now working on the definitive design and the TI material has been very helpful.

I have studied a lot and selected 3 references for my new design:

Sub 1-W, 16-Channel, Isolated Digital Input Module Reference Design
www.ti.com/.../TIDA-01508

Input Protection and Backup Supply Reference Design for 25-W PLC Controller Unit
www.ti.com/.../TIDA-03031

Low Side 0.5A 8ch Digital Output Module for PLC
www.ti.com/.../TIDA-00236

Now i'ld like to know if those are the best references for my design, or there are newer technologies that may be better to use

Thanks

  • Hello and thank you for your interest in Texas Instruments.  Your question has been received and forwarded to our Industrial System Factory Automation team.  As it is the holiday season, most of our teams are out of the office on vacation until January 2nd.  Please allow us some time until January 2nd  to review and respond to your question.

  • Hello,

For the digital inputs, ISO121x device is pretty robust and allows for Ch-Ch isolation. for high density though, you might be willing to use single isolator to save cost. I would recommend to have a look at:

    - TIDA-00117

For digital outputs, you didn't indicate if they are high or low side. either way I would recommend also to check:

    - TIDA-00320 Low Side 0.5A

    TIDA-01552 High Side 2A

    - TIDA-00319 High Speed DQ

I do recommend to check our EE block diagrams found under

    Factory Automation Portal

Under PLC section, there are many designs including protection circuits as well as power circuits

you can search reference designs, especially power designs using reference design search tool

Power solutions can also be generated using Webench Power designer tool

Hope you get to what you are looking for through these material.

  • Thanks for your repply. Your tips are being vere useful for my research and development.

TI offers any type of support about veryfing / validating a schematics and layout confidentially, develloped using exclusivelly its products? If no, whats the best way to have a feedback by a TI expert about my design when its finished?

  • Unfortunately, we don't offer generic schematic reviews to avoid any IP contamination from customers. However, if your company has dedicated sales representatives you can approach them with this request. Special reviews can be done by the customer-assigned field engineers who are not widely sharing their information among TI.
