ISO1042: ISO1042, ISO1432

Part Number: ISO1042
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1432,

Hi,

We are planning to use ISO1042 for Isolated CAN interface and ISO1432 for Isolated RS485 Interface.
The both transceivers requires an isolated voltage on bus side as VCC2.
The both device can operate with a isolated 5V to VCC2.

Can we use one single isolated power supply which will output isolated 5V output and same out can be used for both Rs485 and CAN transceivers?

Or do we have to use independent isolated supplies for  RS485 and CAN?

Will there be any issue if i use same supply for both transceivers?

Please suggest.

Regards,
Shafeeq

  • Shafeeq,

Thank you for considering the ISO1042 and ISO1432 for your design!

Yes you can use a single isolated 5V supply for both transceivers as long as you only wish to isolate the logic side (TX/RX) from the communication lines of your system. However, using the same isolated 5V supply for both devices will not acheive isolation between the RS485 bus and the CAN bus.

Do you have a solution for creating the isolated 5V supply? We also have the SN6505 DC/DC transformer driver for this purpose.

  • Shafeeq,

I haven't heard from you but I hope my response was helpful. I'm marking this thread as resolved but feel free to create a new thread if you still need help or have questions.
