SN6501: Power consumption of the isolated supply

Part Number: SN6501

Hello,

I have 5Vin to 5Vout isolated supply design using SN6501 driver, 760390014 Transformer and an LDO.

During system sleep current evaluation, we observe that the isolated supply (SN6501+760390014) is consuming ~14mA in no load condition.

Could you let me know if it is expected current/behaviour and if yes, how do I reduced it.

Basically my application required very low current of the order of uA.

Kindly clarify and thanks in advance.

Regards,

Anand M

  • Hi Anand,

Thank you for reaching out to us and showing interest in SN6501.

The current that you are seeing looks to be normal. I understand your application requires very low current consumption under no load conditions, SN6501 will not be able to support the same. µA of current consumption for an isolated power solution is not very easy to achieve and I am not aware of any devices supporting feature.

Lower power consumption under no load conditions can be achieved using external circuits and implementation. Please do take a look at the below E2E post that provides more details on one of such implementations. Thanks.
