SN6505A-Q1: Transformer recommendation

Part Number: SN6505A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6505B, SN6505A

Hi team,

There are many transformers which TI recommend in the SN6505A-Q1 datasheet. However, there are no transformers that meet the following customer requirements:

1、5V to 5V

2、The LDO are used on the secondary side

3、100mA

Only the recommended transformers are available in the SN6505B/D, please recommend the transformer or parameter that the SN6505A-Q1 fits to meet this need.

  • Hi Amy,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing customer requirements.

SN6505A (160kHz) operates at a lower frequency compared to SN6505B (420kHz) and is suitable for the applications where there are very stringent radiated emissions requirements or have restrictions on maximum operating frequency. To support lower switching frequency, the transformer size needs to be increased and since, the transformer size goes up, it usually supports much higher current than 100mA and that is why we have transformers listed with 1A output support in the table with list of transformers.

Like you have already guessed, customers can use the 1A rated transformers for 100mA applications as well. Please see below image with the suitable transformers highlighted.

I will also check with the team to see if we have any other further optimized transformers for your requirement. Meanwhile, please do let us know the reason why customer would like to choose SN6505A for 5V @ 100mA output and the reason for not choosing SN6505B. Thanks.

  • Hi Amy,

Thank you for posting to E2E! As Koteshwar mentioned, the transformers listed with 1A output support in the table can be used for 100mA applications.

There are also commercially-available push-pull transformers that are not included on the datasheet and could be used for 100mA applications -- please let us know if you would like for us to share some additional potential parts for our customer to use.

    Have a great weekend,
    Manuel Chavez
