ISO1050: what is the potential risk if ISO1050 works below 4.75V(Vcc2) continuously

Hi team,

From ISO1050 datasheet, we can see that recommended Vcc2 range is 4.75-5.25V. But according to experiment, ISO1050 can work normally when the Vcc2 drops to 4.0V. So my question is what the Vcc2  maximum and minimum are for  ISO1050 working normally. How do you get the  Vcc2 range(4.75-5.25V)? And what is the potential risk if ISO1050 works below 4.75V(Vcc2) continuously?

  • Hi Sophia,

    Proper operation of the ISO1050 is not guaranteed outside of the Recommended Operating Conditions. These limits are determined to be the part's physical environment necessary to perform as specified. Although the device may appear to function outside of the recommended Vcc2 level, it is not characterized to meet datasheet specifications outside of recommended voltages, and it could be damaged.

    Please encourage our customer to stay within Recommended Operating Conditions for all Isolation devices.

    Thanks for your reply. Does that mean 4.75 and 5.25V are the VCC2 minimum and maximum for ISO1050 working normally?

    The customer tested 10 pieces of ISO1050 and according to test results , each part of ISO1050 can work normally when the Vcc2 drops to 3.5V. So how can you explain this abnormal phenomenon? The customer wants to know what the Vcc2 minimum is for ISO1050 working normally.

    The customer VCC2 range is 4.34 to 5.4V and it is a mass production project, so they want to know whether there is potential risk and abnormal phenomenon if ISO1050 works under mentioned VCC2 range continuously?

    It is not abnormal for you to see the ISO1050 working down to 3.5V. That being said, we cannot guarantee any of the electrical characteristics or switching characteristics outside of the recommended operating conditions. So your customer would be doing so at their own risk.
