    Hi,

    Yes, the bidirectional isolator ISO1540 can also be used for UART communication but you will not be making use of the bidirectional function of the isolator ISO1540. There are other unidirectional digital isolators that have much higher performance than ISO1540 which will not only suit UART application but will also provide much higher overall performance.

    Please do check out the datasheet of ISO7721 which suits best for UART application. ISO77xx series of family is available in multiple channel configurations and multiple packages. You can choose the device that best suits your requirement. Let me know if you have any questions, thank you.
