ISO7821LL: Work with LAN Magnetics for Ethernet 10/100-T?

Part Number: ISO7821LL

Hi,

The A/D converter is affected by AC main 60Hz noise from RJ45 connector, so there might be another way of using ISO7821LL (with ultra-low isolation capacitance 0.7pF) between LAN Magnetics and MSP432E401 PHY. Is there any concern? Please make comments.

Thanks.

  • Hi Ming,

Thank you for showing interest in ISO7821LL.

Please do note that ISO7821LL is an LVDS isolator where the input and output signals are LVDS digital signals. I am not aware of any isolator that can directly isolate Ethernet signals. An alternative approach is to use isolator with standard CMOS signals along with an Ethernet transceiver so that the Ethernet port is isolated from MCU. The Ethernet magnetics do provide isolation already but I understand that you are facing some noise issues and hence want to use a additional isolation.

ISO77xx is a family of digital isolators that supports standard digital CMOS signals for datarate upto 100Mbps. If you prefer to use ISO7821LL then you would be required to use LVDS to CMOS & CMOS to LVDS transceivers between MCU & Ethernet transceiver.

Both of these devices should work fine without any concerns when associated devices are used to complete the interface. Let me know if you have any questions, thank you.
