In case it is useful to you, you may want to take a look at this reference design for protecting RS-485 transceivers against high DC voltages:

Also note that a simpler solution may be to use a device like THVD2450, which is similar in performance to THVD1550 but able to withstand +/- 70 V without requiring this external protection circuit.
