ISO1050: communication failed

Part Number: ISO1050

Hello,

Our customer used ISO1050 for CAN communication,  the cable length is 40m, 23 nodes, and data rate is 500Kbps, but the communication is failed, while he tested in experience lab, there is no problem. Below is the schematic, he has added the termination resistor at the end of the node. Please help to analyze:

  • Hi Kailyn,

Sorry to hear about the issue and thanks for reaching out.
The schematic image you have shared is too low in resolution and is not readable, could you please share a higher resolution picture so that the components and their values are visible?

Can you please also share more details about the issue?

    1. How long is the communication cable?
    2. Does the issue happen only when all the 23 nodes are connected? Did customer test it with lower number of nodes?
    3. Is termination connected on both ends of the CAN bus?
    4. Did customer also test it with lower datarate and if it works?

    Regards,

  • HI Kotesshwar,

    Thank you for your reply.

    1. The cable length is 40m.

    2. I have suggested the customer to test with lower nodes to test, and I will check again.

3.Yes, he connected the termination resistor on both ends of the CAN bus.

    4. I will checked the customer again, and try to send me the schematic again with higher resolution.

    Best regards

We haven't heard from you in a while and must start to close this thread. The above section from the datasheet describes the max nodes and bus length for the ISO1050. The linked document covers the physical layer requirements of CAN and can help debug the customer's issue. Please know that the quality of Vcc1 and Vcc2 also matter. Any ripple in these supplies will also be seen in the waveforms. Also please ensure the customer using proper grounding techniques and using shielded twisted pair cables. Feel free to email me if the customer continues to have issues.

    Respectfully,

    Lucas
