ISO1212: Is it compatible with 0 - 12 V digital input levels?

Part Number: ISO1212
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7741-Q1

Hi, dear. I am looking for signal level converter +  isolation to connect 3v3 MCU input with a car 12V limit switch and another onboard equipment.  ISO1212 is  compatible with 0 - 12 V digital input levels? Thank you!

  • Danil,

You could make the ISO1212 be compatible with a 12V system by choosing the correct R(THR) value. An R(THR) value of 1k and a R(SENSE) value of 562 results in a logic high threshold of 10.4V and a logic low threshold of 9.2V. Would this work for your system?

Also, is this device meant to be used in an automotive system? If so, unfortunately the ISO1212 is not automotive qualified

    Respectfully,

    Lucas

    .

  • Dear Lucas, ISO1212  logic high threshold of 10.4V and a logic low threshold of 9.2V is probably OK for me. Probably because I didn't find automotive ISO information.

Would you suggest me  automotive qualified isolater, please? High datarate is not critical.

    Best regards, Danil

  • Danil,

We have our ISO7741-Q1 digital isolator that is automotive qualified however it's inputs and outputs can only handle up to 5V. It will also require isolated DC/DC power for each Vcc since it can't be powered from the inputs like the ISO121x family can.

If bidirectional communication isn't need (12V is only ever an input and not an output) then you could use a voltage divider to step down the voltage to the ISO7741-Q1's inputs.

    Respectfully,

    Lucas
