Dear expert,

The SN6505B has the 1.7A current limit. When it is trigger, does it limit current cycle by cycle? or just shutdown?

Which current limit protection does it use?

    Hi Dylan,

    Thank you for posting to E2E! Current-limiting is implemented on a cycle-by-cycle basis and clamps current to the current-limit value (~1.75A) when SN6505 detects excess currents through the D1/D2 pins to GND.

    Depending on ambient operating temperatures, sinking this amount of current may cause the device to heat up enough to trigger Thermal Shutdown. In that case, the device will shut off until it cools a few degrees, then power up again.
