[FAQ] ISOW7841: Can I connect VISO outputs of two or more ISOW7841 devices directly in parallel to get higher output current than the current supported by a single device (130mA)?

Part Number: ISOW7841

Can I connect VISO outputs of two or more ISOW7841 devices directly in parallel to get higher output current than the current supported by a single device (130mA)?

  • VISO outputs of ISOW7841 devices cannot be tied together to achieve higher output current. Connecting multiple VISO outputs in parallel will lead to only the device with highest VISO voltage stay ON while all other device DC/DC converters to turn OFF. Hence, total current supported by the solution will still be the same as max current supported by one ISOW7841 device, which is 130mA as stated in datasheet.

If a discrete solution with readily available standard push-pull transformer is acceptable for your requirement, then you can use the push-pull transformer driver SN6505A or SN6505B to get isolated power upto 5W. For data isolation, you can use either ISO7741 or ISO6741 based on your isolation requirements. ISO77xx and ISO67xx digital isolator family devices are also available in many other channel configurations.

An example application using SN6505 and digital isolator is shown below.
