ISO7760: Layout for ISO7760

Part Number: ISO7760

Dear Sirs,

My customer asked us about layout for ISO7760.

He is troubled about the layout.

He is thinking of placing ISO 7760 on TOP and Bottom to make good use of the pattern.

Is it possible to place the same ISO 7760 on the bottom of the board?

Please let me know if there is a problem.

Best Regards,

Y.Hasebe

  • Hello Yoshiki-san,

Thank you for using the E2E forums!

Could you please elaborate on why the customer wants to place the isolator on the top and the bottom of the board?

Do you want to maintain the same layout for both the top and the bottom?

    Best Regards,

    Manasa

  • Hello Manasa-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

Could you please elaborate on why the customer wants to place the isolator on the top and the bottom of the board?

My customer wants to secure the required pattern area of ISO 7760.

However, we are considering it because we can not secure the necessary space.

As one of them, he has been asking if it is possible to attach to both TOP and Bottom.

Do you want to maintain the same layout for both the top and the bottom?

    ⇒Yes

My customer is asked whether it is possible for this arrangement, in order to secure the necessary pattern area.

    Best Regards,

    Y.Hasebe

  • Hello Yoshiki-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have a few specific questions for current problem. It would be nice if you could let us know about this.

    1. Can you please elaborate the layout problem that the customer is currently facing? Has it got something to do with the placement of the isolators in a particular fashion?
    2. Will the customer be using 2 isolators for the application - one populated on the top of the board and the other one on the bottom of the board?
    3. By pattern area, do you mean the layout area or the area under the device that remains unused to maintain isolation?

    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Manasa
  • Hello Manasa-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    1. Can you please elaborate the layout problem that the customer is currently facing? Has it got something to do with the placement of the isolators in a particular fashion?

⇒He has designed a circuit that uses about 30 ISO7760s.
Initially I was thinking of wiring signal patterns etc. on the Bottom surface.
However, he understood from Datasheet Figure 31. Layout Example Schematic that no traces or pads should be placed directly under the IC.
That's why he struggles with layout considerations.

    2. Will the customer be using 2 isolators for the application

⇒He has designed a circuit that uses about 30 ISO7760s.

     - one populated on the top of the board and the other one on the bottom of the board?

    ⇒Yes.
He is thinking of combining layouts to secure layout space.

    3. By pattern area, do you mean the layout area or the area under the device that remains unused to maintain isolation?

    ⇒It is a layout area.
He is thinking about how to place ISO 7760 there because the board size is fixed.
He thinks one way is to mount it on the top of the board and the other on the bottom of the board.
He is asking whether it is a problem in that way.

    Please let me know them.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Yoshiki-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

Placing the isolators on both top and the bottom of the board does not pose a problem provided that the rest of the devices (mounted on both the top and the bottom of the board) on the left side of the isolators share the same ground (say GND1) and the devices on the right side (mounted on both the top and the bottom of the board) of the isolator share the same ground (say GND2) (this ground is isolated from the left side ground, GND1).

Please let us know if this answers your question.

    Best regards,
    Manasa
  • Hello Manasa-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understand your comments.

I will explain them to my customer.
