ISO1211: IEC 61000-4-6

Part Number: ISO1211

Hello team.

One customer considers to use our ISO1211 device in digital input modules for Programmable Logic Controller.

As customer claims, test for IEC 61000-4-6 compliance is mandatory for such kind of end application.

On ti.com we can find tests results on compliance to IEC 61000-4-2, IEC 61000-4-4, IEC 61000-4-5.

But there is no information on  IEC 61000-4-6 compliance.

So I have two questions regarding this:

1. Did we perform  IEC 61000-4-6 compliance test for ISO1211? Can we provide any materials in case we did?

2. Can we give any design recommendation for successful passing these tests?

Thank you for support in advance.

  • Hi Slava,

Thanks for reaching out, please see my inputs below.

    1. Did we perform  IEC 61000-4-6 compliance test for ISO1211? Can we provide any materials in case we did?

No, we have not done any IEC 61000-4-6 (conducted immunity, CI) compliance tests on ISO1211. Can you please confirm if customer intends to perform CI test on the digital field input with respect to local GND? Or is it a test on the power supply of the whole unit?
May I know what CI level does customer intends to meet?

    2. Can we give any design recommendation for successful passing these tests?

Since we do not have this data, I am not sure if the device is going to meet customer requirement directly. If not, then the most common approach improve immunity on the digital input is by adding an appropriate TVS diode or filtering capacitor or both.

Please let me know the requested inputs to be able to comment further, thanks.

  • HI Koteshwar Rao.

Yes, we intend to perform CI test on the digital field inputs of our PLC module with respect to local GND.

The test level is 3 (International standard EN 61000 – 4-6:2014 define following immunity levels in frequency range 150kHz-80MHz. Test levels are expressed in RMS values 10V, 140 dBuv ). Performance Criteria A.

I think that “adding an appropriate TVS diode” is not a good idea. I try to use a low pass filter.

  • Hi Victor,

Thank you for confirming the test conditions and test level requirements. Yes, if your input signal frequency is low then the low pass filter should help. Please do test the device and let us know the results.

I will mark this post closed but you can respond to it once you have some test results. Thanks.
