Hello,

TPS62410-Q1 datasheet (SLVSAA8 –MARCH 2010) has only θja and doesn’t have θjc.

But TPS62410 Non-Q1 datasheet (SLVS737A REVISED JULY 2015) has following thermal information.

RθJA, RθJC(top), RθJB, ψJT, ψJB, RθJC(bot)

I want to confirm these thermal information of Non-Q1 datasheet can be used for TPS62410-Q1.

Ushikubo-san,
Since the RθJA is different between the two versions (RθJA(TPS62410)=45.9°C/W vs. RθJA(TPS62410-Q1)=49°C/W), there was likely mold-compound change for the Q1-version. Therefore the thermal data between the versions are NOT interchangeable.
We would need to run an independent thermal simulation for the TPS62410-Q1, which will take several weeks.
Please let me know if this is requested.

Ushikubo-san,

normally, it would take much longer for a thermal model to be created (it's a centralized team that creates those). However, when I meant to request it, I found that it was already run. Here are the results:

Result-Theta JC, top: 62.8 °C/W

Result-Theta JC, bottom: 4.1 °C/W

Result-Theta JB: 16.6 °C/W

Result- Psi JT: 1.2 °C/W

Result- Psi JB: 16.8 °C/W

Hello Frank-san,

Please answer following question from customer.

Theta JA is 49°C/W and Theta JC, top is 62.8 °C/W.

Customer think thermal resistance between junction to case is smaller than junction to ambient usually, but Theta JC > Theta JA.

Could you please explain the reason of Theta JC > Theta JA for this package?

Hello Ushikubo-san,
please note that there are two specifications for Theta JC:
Result-Theta JC, top: 62.8 °C/W
Result-Theta JC, bottom: 4.1 °C/W
The part heavily relies on the Power-Pad (bottom). Thus the thermal path via PowerPad and PCB to ambient is lower resistance than JC(top).
